PL mainstreet flags
Hello, and Happy Halloween! Many treats upon your house, and I suggest you check your youthlings for toilet paper and eggs before they exit your abode. I know kids think toilet paper omlettes are cool, but they're a dead end. Anyway, since last week's newsletter was as generic and substantial as a Barbie doll, this week is bursting at the seams with photographs and actually has events! I must apologize for last week's, but a sickness rendered me useless most of the week. But if you've been reading any of my newsletters, you know how much I love colorful photos! I hope you do, too.
Halloween Parade
Trick or Treat on Main Street
Date: Wednesday, October 31st
Place: Main Street, Plattsmouth, NE
Time: 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Details: Participants will line up in the Alltel Parking Lot where judging will take place at 4:00 PM with the following age groups: 2 and under, 3-4, 5-7, 8-10, and 11-15.
New this year: "Wizard of Oz" costume judging. The winning costume, among all other entries, will receive a special Wizard of Oz trophy.
At 4:15 PM, all parade participants will come down to the middle of Main Street, led by the Plattsmoth Police Department and representatives of the PHS High School.
Ad the end of Main Street, Cass County Historical Society representatives will be handing out apples and oranges at the Cook Cabin. Thank you to Jack and Jill and No Frills Supermarket for donating the fruit again this year.
Participants will then turn around and make their way up both sides of Main Street. This takes place at about 4:25 PM. Merchants are asked to be in front of their businesses to pass out Halloween treats. This is usually completed by 5:00 PM.
If your business is not located on Main Street, please feel free to pass out treats at any location (last year, this annual event drew about 400 children).
Thank you for your cooperation. All children who participate really love this parade!

Okay, I'm done with the events. Hurray!

For my spoooooky Halloween edition, I was hoping to find pictures of adorable little children dressed up in adorable little costumes eating enough candy to bankroll a sugar company to a Fortune 500 company. Unfortunately, my newsletter is due the DAY of Wednesday, not the night. So for fair warning, this edition contains no adorable children, unless you think I count as one. But I'm 20 years old, at least as long as you don't ask my dad who will tell you that I am six years old and always will be forever and ever. I had to stop and think to myself, "What can I do to properly reflect the Halloween holiday without the cornerstones of the season: children, costumes, and candy?"  Then the answer came to me while I drove through the city: decorations! The businesses of Plattsmouth have some wonderful displays, so I figured the best course of action would be to show some of the storefront displays to get you in the spirit... before it gets into you! As usual, click on the image to see the full-sized version.
