Summer Reading Program Fun!
"Dream Big - Read!" is the theme of the Summer Reading Program being held at the library this year. The programs will be on Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. starting on June 5 and running through July 3. This free program is open to preschoolers through sixth grade based on last year completed, and there is no registration required.
To help the kids dream big about their futures, the speakers for the program are Buzz Barrett, retired Air Force Pilot, Ballet Nebraska, a professional ballet troupe, and Wildlife Rescue Team, Inc., a group focused on saving wild animals found all over the state of Nebraska. The final week will be a picnic at Rhylander Park to wrap up the program with the prize giveaways for the participants.
As part of the program, the kids will be reading to benefit “Happy Paws,” a local animal advocacy group that helps the Plattsmouth animal shelter. The Friends of the Plattsmouth Public Library will donate money based on the number of minutes read by the kids. It's going to be an exciting year, and we are looking forward to seeing everyone at the library!
Library Receives Grant from Cass County Tourism
The library was awarded a grant from the Cass County Visitors Promotion Committee to help provide landscaping around the library. Additional funds are being donated by the Plattsmouth Public Library Foundation and the Friends of the Library. The city is providing labor and donating materials for a new patio.
Green velvet boxwood, endless summer hydrangea, oakleaf hydrangea, carex grass, hosta, and knockout roses will be planted in the front of the building. Dwarf fountain grass will be planted in the rear of the building. The rear entrance will also include a patio made with bricks removed from Main Street during the downtown improvement project; a pergola-like bower will help shade the new patio. Look for improvements to be made throughout the spring and summer.
