Lofte Community Theatre

AUDITION NOTICE - May 27 & 29

The Lofte Communitiy Theatre near Manley will be holding auditions on Sunday, May 27th and Tuesdsay, May 29th at 6:30pm for their upcoming summer musical, "Singin' in the Rain." The stage play is based off of the 1952 MGM film. Artistic Director Kevin Colbert and Musical Director Betty Colbert ask that those auditioning bring a prepared song of no more than one minute in length. An accompanist will be provided. This is a large ensemble cast with many featured (speaking) roles. There are roles available for trained dancers including some solos. The star vehicle is male. Parts are available for men and women ages 17-60. No stage experience is required. Newcomers are always welcome. Rehearsals will begin in June. The show will run weekends July 20-August 5. Those who have questions about the show or the audition process are welcome to contact the Lofte at (402) 234-2553.

"Hansel & Gretel" Auditions at Lofte Theatre

For the sixth straight year, the Lofte Community Theatre will be partnering with Missoula Children's Theater for a children's production. This year's musical is, "Hansel & Gretel."

Auditions will be held at the theater on Monday, June 11 at 10am. Auditions are open to students entering first through seventh grade. Approximately sixty children will be cast. There is no guarantee that everyone who auditions will be cast in the play. The audition process will last approximately two hours. Some children will be asked to stay for the first rehearsal immediately after auditions.

Rehearsals will take place at the Lofte June 11 through June 16, 10am to 2:30pm. While not all actors will be needed for all sessions, they should have a clear schedule for the week. Actors should bring a sack lunch each day.

The Lofte will hold two public performances of "Hansel & Gretel," on Saturday, June 16th. The first is at 3pm, the second is at 6pm. The cast will be called for a dress rehearsal 2-4 hours before the first performance. Adult admission is $8; children are $5.

Missoula Children's Theater is a non-profit organization based in Missoula, Montana. Their residency at the Lofte is generously sponsored in part by Plattsmouth State Bank and Home State Bank. Those with questions about auditions or tickets may call the Lofte box office at (402) 234-2553.

Simon's Classic, "The Sunshine Boys" in Manley

The Lofte Community Theatre in Manley announces that it will begin its thirty-sixth season with Neil Simon's classic stage play, "The Sunshine Boys." The show opens on Saturday, May 26th.

The story revolves around the vaudeville comedy team, "Lewis and Clark." Al and Willie were top-billed comedians for over forty years. Now they aren't even speaking. When CBS approaches them for a "History of Comedy" retrospective, the grudging reunion brings the two back together along with a flood of memories, miseries and laughs. Many may remember the 1975 film version featuring Walter Matthau and George Burns.

Directed by Kevin Colbert, the show stars Bob Pinkerton of Weeping Water and newcomer, Ken Snyder of Elmwood. Also starring in the show are Scott Nielsen of Eagle, Tim Sorensen of Elmwood, Millard Carnes and Jennifer Harvey of Plattsmouth and Megan Homan of Springfield.

Performance dates are May 26, 27, June 1-3 and 7-10. Curtain times Thursday-Saturday are 7:30pm. Sunday performances are 2pm matinees. Tickets are still available for all shows. Reserved seats are $17. Those interested can call the box office at 402-234-2553.

Avenue B Intersection Closing

John Daniel Stanfield, author of Tales of the Faerevold: Nils’ Passage, will visit the Plattsmouth Public Library on Thursday, May 24, 6:30-7:00 pm. He will provide background on his writing experience and talk about his book. Join us in the library auditorium to hear this local author.

Library Receives Grant from Cass County Tourism

The library was awarded a grant from the Cass County Visitors Promotion Committee to help provide landscaping around the library. Additional funds are being donated by the Plattsmouth Public Library Foundation and the Friends of the Library. The city is providing labor and donating materials for a new patio.

Green velvet boxwood, endless summer hydrangea, oakleaf hydrangea, carex grass, hosta, and knockout roses will be planted in the front of the building. Dwarf fountain grass will be planted in the rear of the building. The rear entrance will also include a patio made with bricks removed from Main Street during the downtown improvement project; a pergola-like bower will help shade the new patio. Look for improvements to be made throughout the spring and summer.

Free Fiddle & Harmonica Workshops

Multi-Instrumentalists, Greenblatt & Seay, will be giving free workshops on Saturday, May 26, at the Homestead National Monument of America in Beatrice, Nebraska. Championship fiddler, Deborah Greenblatt, will be giving a free fiddle workshop at 10 AM. David Seay's free harmonica workshop will be at 12 p.m. with all participants receiving a free harmonica.

Homestead National Monument of America is a unit of the National Park Service located four miles west of Beatrice, Nebraska. Hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free of charge.
