HF cancelled

 Update: June 18, 2020

It is with heavy hearts that we are announcing the cancellation of the 2020 Plattsmouth Harvest Festival. This was not an easy decision.
Based on the Federal and State recommendations with Covid19 and the uncertainty of what the next few months will bring, we felt we needed to make the decision now. This gives our committees time to contact their vendors and other participants.
Our Festival brings hundreds of people together in our community both old and young. It is for their safety and well-being that we felt the right decision was to cancel.
Our 2019-2020 Royalty will continue to represent the Plattsmouth Harvest Festival for 2020-2021. This may give them the opportunity to experience the multiple parades and events they missed this year due to the Covid19 virus.
The Plattsmouth Harvest Festival will be back September 9-12, 2021, with the parades, music and events you have enjoyed in the past!
Again, this was not an easy decision to make. We did include our City’s Leadership in our discussion and they agreed with our decision. We hope we have your support and understanding.

PCS Superintendent Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update - June 19, 2020

Parents/Guardians/Patrons/Staff,

Good evening. Per feedback from Governor Ricketts this week, we will enter Phase III of reopening in Nebraska on June 22, 2020. Scroll down the page for a link to the latest information from Governor Ricketts.

Specifically, many of you are wondering what school will look like for the 2020-2021 school year. We are currently gathering feedback from our staff members. Your feedback is also important to us as we plan for the upcoming school year. Therefore, a parent/guardian survey will be sent next week. Please take the time to complete the survey for us.

Once we receive staff and parent/guardian feedback via surveys, we will work with the Sarpy/Cass Health Department and develop an informed plan for our students and staff members in Plattsmouth. Rest assured that health and safety will be a top consideration with our reopening plan.

At the present time, we are implementing a strength and conditioning plan that includes no more than 15 student-athletes at a time with strength training in the fitness center and no more than 15 student-athletes conditioning on the football/soccer field (weather permitting). We also developed a plan for baseball/softball with primarily student-athletes that will be in 9th through 12th grades in the 2020-2021 school year, while maintaining a focus on the health and safety for participants and fans. Given the current COVID-19 environment, these organizations have enhanced guidelines relative to the lease agreement, insurance, and facilities responsibilities.

Additional information has been released by Governor Ricketts and the NSAA relative to allowable activities. We will be reviewing the information and determining whether we will be allowing additional activities on our campuses for students that will be in 9th through 12th grades in the 2020-2021 school year.

In an effort to maintain health and safety for children and adults, we do not plan to open any other indoor or outdoor facilities for public use during the month of June. June will be a trial period. I believe it is worthy of pointing out that we also do not plan to have childcare (including POPS Place) at any of our buildings during the month of June.

Otherwise, we plan to have it in the gymnasium. Stay tuned for more information that will be provided in the COVID-19 Update on June 26, 2020.

2020-2021 State Aid Certification is available from the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) at https://www.education.ne.gov/fos/state-aid/. PCS will have a decrease of $565,916 in State Aid for 2020-2021. When we figure in the prior year (2018-2019) correction of +$128,469 that we received in 2019-2020, the difference between 2019-2020 State Aid and 2020-2021 State Aid is even greater. At the May meeting, our Board of Education approved the 2020-2021 Budget Efficiency Plan that can be viewed at https://bit.ly/2WU23u1. Scroll down to item 7.15.

The good news is that in 2020-2021 we estimate the second year of approximately 100 students entering kindergarten, as opposed to lower numbers from the immediately preceding years that are evident in our 1st grade (78 students), 2nd grade (88 students), 3rd, grade (93 students) and 4th grade (93 students). If you have suggestions for how our district might be more efficient with resources and address the decrease in State Aid, please submit your ideas in the Business Services/Budget section under District Topics on our Let’s Talk site at https://bit.ly/2Y9ua9N.
