Severe blood shortage: Red Cross issues immediate call for blood donations
Blood drive hosts needed this winter to stop prolonged shortage
The American Red Cross is facing a severe blood shortage after a significant shortfall in donations in September and October. With the holidays right around the corner, which historically bring a further decline in donations, blood and platelet donors and volunteer blood drive hosts are urgently needed to avoid delays in medical treatments now and throughout winter. All eligible donors are urgently needed to give now to help replenish the blood supply.

Library Foundation Receives Grant for Laser Cutter!
Midlands Community Foundation recently notified the Plattsmouth Public Library Foundation that it has been awarded a $3000 grant for a laser cutter! The Library Foundation has been working with the library since April to raise funds for the project. The laser cutter was the most popular piece of equipment used during the Library Innovation Studios project last winter.
The laser cutter is very versatile. It can be used to etch on wood, glass, ceramic tiles, and coasters; it’s even been used to etch on Legos and a brick. It can also cut intricate designs from paper!
The cost of the Universal VLS 3.50 laser cutter, which has a larger engraving area and faster laser than the machine used during the testing period, is $16,065. With the software, computer, a small inventory of birch, and a cabinet to hold the cutting apparatus, the total cost of the project is $17,315. As of November 2, the library and the Plattsmouth Public Library Foundation have raised over $12,680! If budgeted funds are included, the library is less than $1200 away from reaching the goal! Thanks to the following individuals and businesses for their donations.
