The Plattsmouth Public Library would like to announce that they will be holding an Open Mike Night on Thursday, March 14, 2008 at 7:30 pm.  More details to be forth coming soon

On Saturday January 19, 2008 Plattsmouth Public Library opened its door for our Electronic Gaming Tournament. The players arrived at 9:00 in the morning and we kicked off the competition at 9:00 am.  The competitors competed in a number of games including Halo 3, Guitar Hero III, Madden ’07, Star Wars Battlefront II, and Breakout.

J.D Fabian took 1st place with a prize of $25, Jesse Kosalka got 2nd place and took home a prize of $15, Steven Houchin was the 3rd place finisher who won $10 and 4th place was taken by Mac Stine who took home $5.  Tournament Director Josh Smith was quoted as saying, “Although our numbers aren’t quite where we want them to be, everyone seems to have a really good time.  I can only see this program becoming bigger and better as time goes on”.

The Friends of the Plattsmouth Public Library will be sponsoring their popular monthly Soup Luncheons with the next one being on Thursday, February 14, 2008 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Choose from Italian sausage or broccoli cheese soup for just $5.00 per person.  Your meal also includes bread, crackers, choice of desserts, and beverage.  Proceeds benefit the many children’s programs at the Library including the Summer Reading Program, Halloween Spooky Story Time, Holiday Party, and other monthly programs at the Library. 

Plattsmouth City of Council Member Ruth Wassinger is preparing for her second Boston Marathon in April, 2008. She qualified by running the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital Marathon in Memphis, TN and winning second place in the women’s age category of 55-59. 

The Plattsmouth Public Library would like to announce that they are holding an Xbox360 Tournament on February 23, 2008.  The games featured include: Halo 3, Guitar Hero III, Call of Duty 3, Crimson Skies and many more.  The tournament will start at 10 a.m., cost is five dollars, which includes lunch.  Pre-registration is encouraged but not required, so sign up today!

The Plattsmouth Public Library is holding Chocolate day for area children on February 9, 2008 at 1 p.m.  Cost if free and registration is not required.  So come on down for a chocolate-y good time!

Plattsmouth Public High School will be hosting it’s annual Mr. PHS contest on the 29th of February. The theme of this years contest is Southern Reflections. Last year the contest awarded over $1,500 in scholarships and $800 in prizes. 

School sporting events for the rest of January are as follows:

Thursday, Jan. 25 - Junior varsity wrestling at five o’clock at Adams Filmore; Girls Basket-Ball at the Nebraska City EMC Conference

Friday, Jan. 26 - Boys Basket-Ball at the Nebraska City EMC Conference

Saturday, Jan. 27 - 9th grade Girls Basket-Ball Tournament at 9 o’clock; 9th grade Boys Basket-Ball Tournament at 9 o’clock; Varsity Wrestling at Omaha Skutt at 9 o’clock; Junior Varsity wrestling at the Centennial Invite at 1 o’clock; Girls and Boys Basket-Ball at Nebraska City EMC finals.
