BLUE is the new GREEN!!
There is a new recycling trailer in Plattsmouth!
Plattsmouth Residents were utilizing the recycling trailer so much, that it needed to be hauled twice, if not three times a week. This is with many of the residents using curbside recycling. I don't know about you....but this is a big deal!
The new trailer is still located in the same location. It is a 25 yd container opposed to the 10 yrd trailer we had previously. It is also easier to place your recyclables inside the trailer. Simply, just slide the doors to the side. The larger trailer is provided by Papillion Sanitation.
The recycling program has been a big success so hopefully this will continue to grow the recycling program and we will not have any issues with the new trailer.
Residents, please be diligent and if you see abuse to the trailer report it to the authorities.

New law impacts presidential write in & petition candidates
LINCOLN – LB349 will be a significant change for anyone wishing to petition or be a write in candidate for the office of U.S. President. Governor Dave Heineman has given final approval to that bill.
The new law moves the filing deadline from September 1 to August 1 for those petitioning to be on the presidential ballot. "Changing this date makes ballot certification in Nebraska less of a crisis and easier to achieve in a timely manner," said Secretary of State John Gale.
As a trade-off for the tighter filing deadline, LB349 eliminates the existing restriction that anyone who voted in the primary election for president not be allowed to sign the petition.
In the 2012 general election, 28 notarized affidavits were received by the Secretary of State's office for write in presidential candidates. Only two of these candidates tried to secure enough petitions to be included on the ballot. In both cases, the number of signatures fell short even with the prior September 1 filing date. "Allowing more citizens to sign the petition is a reasonable compromise with the tighter deadline," Gale commented.
The second part of LB349 requires more information from those pursuing a write in candidacy for president. In addition to identifying a vice presidential candidate, write in candidates must also include in their affidavit the names of their five electors.
"Our goal here was to remove one of the roadblocks to timely certification of our statewide election ballots, but have a neutral impact on the ability of petitioners to reach their signature goal by the new deadline and require that write in candidates provide data similar to party nominated candidates. I think we accomplished our intent with LB349," Sec. Gale added.
The law goes into effect 90 days from the date it was signed.
LB349 was sponsored by Senator John Murante on behalf of the Secretary of State's office.

Now that Spring has released us (and our gardens) from the winter's chill, we are preparing for our Plattsmouth (NE) Garden Club's biennual Garden Walk. There will be 5 or 6 beautiful home gardens on this year's walk, which will take place in town.
Tickets will be $5 per person per tour and can be purchased at any home on the walk. Addresses and additional information on each garden will be published within the next couple of weeks.
I can assure you there is a wonderful variety offered this year, from charming cottage gardens to a back yard oasis, to a large shaded acreage, some with water features. Our Veterans Memorial Garden will also be on the walk, which is located at Garfield Park in Plattsmouth, NE.
Garden related vendors will be set up at each garden, and there will also be a Plant Sale.
Proceeds from this event help to pay for the publicity, and also go back into our local community projects. Sponsors are accepted if they coordinate prior to May 21st.
Anyone is welcome to tour these gardens. Bring a friend, neighbor, parent, child or anyone who has a love for nature's beauty!
And please feel free to share and pass this invitation along to others who may be interested, thank you!
