Lofte Community Theatre

While the weather here in Nebraska is hot and dry, things are cool and rainy down at the Lofte Community Theatre in Manley. A new group of volunteer actors, actresses and orchestra members are hard at work on the familiar old tale, "Singin' in the Rain."The MGM Classic film which starred Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds has been converted into a stage play. It's the funny tale of a silent film production company in 1920s Hollywood that is making the difficult transition to sound. Heartthrob Don Lockwood (played by Adam Kovar of Lincoln) and Lina Lamont (newcomer Petra Whittier also of Lincoln) are an on-screen romantic sensation. Don's smooth voice transitions nicely into talkies, but Lina's voice . . . well, even after working with a professional vocal coach, she still has a long way to go.The big surprise in this show? The Lofte is going to make it rain on stage. That's right, folks. We invite you to come enjoy a little bit of rain. Forget the heat while you sit in a nice air conditioned theater, drink a soda pop and enjoy the sights and sounds of 1920s Hollywood. The production is directed by Kevin Colbert. The musical director and orchestra conductor is Betty Colbert. "Singin' in the Rain," opens Friday, July 20 and runs July 20-22, 26-29 and August 2-5. Curtain times are 7:30pm Thursday through Saturday. All Sunday performances are 2pm matinees. Tickets for adults are $18, and children are only $10. Call 402.234.2553 to reserve your seats today.
