Gale offers voter guidelines for Election Day
LINCOLN – Secretary of State John Gale offered guidelines for Nebraska voters to prepare for the Nov. 2 general election.
Going to the polls in Nebraska is easy and convenient,” Gale said. “But there are some simple steps you can take to make sure your voting experience goes smoothly.”
Gale offered the following guidelines for Election Day:
--Check your voter registration and polling place. People can check the status of their voter registration and location of their polling place by contacting their county election office or accessing https://www.votercheck.necvr.ne.gov/.
--Change of address. If a registered voter has moved within a county (out of their former precinct) and not updated their registration, the person should go to the polling place associated with their current residence. The person will be required to vote a provisional ballot.
--Be prepared. Before going to the polls, the voter should become informed about the candidates and issues on the ballot. Sample ballots are printed in newspapers and posted on county websites. Mark and take the sample ballot with you to the polling place.
--Conduct at the polls. To maintain proper decorum at the polls, it is requested that people turn off their cell phones.
--Campaigning prohibited. Campaign items such as buttons, stickers and T-shirts are not allowed in a polling place. It is illegal to campaign within 200 feet of a polling site.
--Voter identification. Proper identification will be required at the polling place of people who are newly registered by mail and did not provide identification. These people will be required to provide identification showing their current residence. Identification at the polling place is not required of other voters.
Polls are open on Election Day from 8 a.m. CDT (7 a.m. MDT) to 8 p.m. CDT (7 p.m. MDT).

“Unnecessary Farce” Is a Necessary Experience
Written in 2002, the script is modern and very witty. The story takes place in two adjoining hotel rooms. In one room, two rookie cops prepare to bust their town’s mayor for embezzlement. With the help of a love-starved woman accountant and a video camera, they set-up a sting in the adjoining room. However, their simple plan soon goes haywire. The accountant keeps taking off her clothes. The mayor’s security guard is overly protective. A mysterious Scottish hitman appears, but is brogue is so thick no one can understand his instructions.
The production is directed by Kevin Colbert of Weeping Water. The colorful ensemble cast includes Kyle Lorenz of Lincoln, Anne Pope of Eagle, Anna Strobel and Ken Patry of Omaha, Kevin and Dawn Holdorf of Manley and Joshua Smith of La Vista.
Performance dates are October 15-17, 22-24 and 28-31. Curtain times are 7:30pm on Thursday-Saturday and 2pm matinees on Sundays. General admission tickets are $16. Reservations can be made by calling the Lofte ticket office at (402) 234-2553.

A SHORT STORY
My family and I live out on a farm where we have horses and board other people’s horses. We also raise yellow Labrador retrievers.
One day I went out in the backyard where one of the labs, Princess, was barking. She was about a year old, and playful and fun. She was on a lead and had wrapped her wire all the way around the tree to the point where she could only lie down. She had no room to move. She barked for help.
I discovered her dilemma and started to just unhook her, unwrap the wire from around the tree, and then re-hook her. But instead, I decided to get her to follow me around the tree however many turns it took to unwrap. So I called her name and prompted her to follow me. And she did, bounding around the tree, glad to see me.
I’m like Princess sometimes, aren’t you? I wrap myself into some pretty tight predicaments, then cry out for help. I need someone to show up, not just to fix it for me, but to call me by name and invite me to follow on the way out.
That’s why I listen to life: to make a positive life, not just a living, by following Someone.
