USDA Rural Development Representative Judy James will be at the Plattsmouth Public Library from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm every Thursday as part of the 502 Direct Home Loan Program.  The purpose of the program is to provide low income people the opportunity to own, adequate, modest, decent, safe and sanitary homes in rural areas.  The loans are to acquire, build, rehabilitate, improve or relocate dwellings and provide adequate water and waste disposal systems.  Call Judy at 402-423-9683 Ext. 4 for more information or to setup an appointment.


The library had 36 kids plus chaperones at the Valentine’s Day Party on Saturday, February 14, 2009.   We had a blast playing bingo for chocolate, making valentine’s day cards, and having storytime.   We also had heart shaped cakes and pink lemonade for treats.   Thank you to everyone who attended!

Monday, February 23, is a special screening of the movie, “April Showers.”  This movie was filmed in Plattsmouth and features citizens as extras.  It is based upon the events of the Columbine High School shootings in 1999 and written by a survivor of that day.  The screening will be at 7:30 p.m. in the High School Auditorium.  It is $10.00 per person admission and the funds raised will be applied to the Plattsmouth Fitness Center.   For more information on the movie, check out the website,   The film will be released in April sometime for general release in theaters.

Congratulations to Jeanene Wehrbein for being named the Individual Booster Award at the annual Chamber of Commerce dinner last week.  Jeanene is tops in promoting Plattsmouth and after “retiring” from the Chamber is now heading up the Chautauqua committee.  Chautauqua is from June 23-June 27 this year, so be watching for the upcoming information.

The Business Booster Award was presented to Wiles Brothers Fertilizer and Wiles Development for their continued success with their existing business and the addition of the new commercial development Wiles Crossing, south of Plattsmouth. 

Brad Ksiazek of Edward Jones Investments was named Business Person of the Year for his many contributions to our community.   Many congratulations to him as well and thanks for everything he does for Plattsmouth and his customers.

Plattsmouth Main Street Association is sponsoring Friendly Friday on February 20 at Seams to Be Quilt Shop, 511 Main Street starting at 6:00 p.m.   Stop in and say hi to your neighbors and friends!

Friends of the Plattsmouth Public Library are offering a Soup Lunch tomorrow, February 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  $5.00 for either chicken noodle or hamburger vegetable, bread, crackers, drink, and dessert.   Take outs are available, call 296-4154.  Proceeds benefit the children’s programs at the library.
