VETERANS' DAY  EVENTS

A salute to  the brave men and women who have served in the Armed Forces will be held at 9am on Thursday (11/11) in the Conestoga Junior-Senior High School commons area. The program will include music, patriotic readings, a special video presentation and a guest speaker. All are welcome.
Conestoga Elementary School will be presenting a Veterans' Day Program on Thursday at 1pm in the elementary gym. "The public is invited to join in recognizing and thanking all veterans for their service to our country."
Louisville Public Schools is hosting a Veterans Day Ceremony on Thursday at 10am in the high school gymnasium. The ceremony, honoring all past and present veterans has been prepared by Louisville High School students. This event is open to the public and will feature Retired Major General Mark Musick as guest speaker.  "Please join us as we honor our veterans."
Plattsmouth High School will be hosting a Veterans Day ceremony at 1:45pm Thursday. The keynote address will be by Colonel Michael P. Milburn, USAF, Ret. With special musical presentations by the USAF Heartland of America Band's "Brass in Blue" and the Plattsmouth High School music department.
The Elmwood G.A.R. Hall Veterans Museum, operated by American Legion Post #247 and located at 124 East "D" Street in Elmwood, will be open on Thursday from 10am until 3pm.  "Stop by and step back in time to learn of early Civil War veterans who helped shape this community as well as other area veterans who made possible the many freedoms we enjoy today."  For information, please call 402-994-5315 or 402-540-1662

Upcoming Chamber Events

This will be a free promotion for the first 50 Chamber
members who would like to participate!

What’s involved!!

The Chamber Business owner’s responsibility:

•Business must have a store front
•Provide a registration box
•Call the winner

The Plattsmouth Chamber will provide:

•Chamber will provide advertising in the paper for all the businesses involved.
•The Turkey (The winners will go to Thriftway to pick-up their free turkey)
•The registration forms
•The Gift Certificates for the Turkeys (you will need to have the winner come back
into your store to pick these up)
•Follow-up call or email to the Chamber office with the winner’s name. The Journal
will list all winners.

The Entry Rules:
Persons must be 18 years of age or older to enter.
Employees and their families are not eligible at their place of employment.
There is a limit of one entry per person per visit.

The contest will start on Monday, November 15th and run through
Saturday, December 11th. The deadline to be a part of this free pro-
motion is Monday, November 8th. The promotion will then start
in The Journal and the Cassgram that week.

The first Friday of every month, the Plattsmouth Community Center has a dance and mini-lesson.  The event is from 6:30 to 8:30.  It is free to members and cost $5 for non-member.  We play a variety of music and the dance is primarily for ballroom, Latin and swing dancing.

Sarah is preparing a wonderful menu of some of the dishes she got to try during her trip to FVG last May. This dinner is one of the most exciting we've ever presented with some of the most unique food and wines you can find! Recipe of the Week

Creamy-Baked-Ziti-57661

Creamy Baked Ziti

What You Need

4 cups ziti pasta, uncooked
1 jar  (26 oz.) marinara sauce
1 can (14-1/2 oz.) diced tomatoes, undrained
6 oz.  (3/4 of 8-oz. pkg.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, cubed
3/4 cup BREAKSTONE'S or KNUDSEN Sour Cream
1 pkg.  (8 oz.) KRAFT Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
1/3 cup KRAFT Grated Parmesan Cheese

Make It

HEAT oven to 375ºF.

COOK pasta in large saucepan as directed on package, omitting salt. Remove from pan; drain. Meanwhile, add marinara sauce, tomatoes and cream cheese to same pan; cook on medium heat 5 min. or until cream cheese is melted and mixture is well blended, stirring frequently. Return pasta to pan; mix well.

LAYER half the pasta mixture in 13x9-inch baking dish; cover with layers of sour cream, 1 cup mozzarella and remaining pasta mixture. Top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan.

BAKE 20 min. or until heated through.

Free Veterans Day Salute at  the Lofte

Manley, NE [October 19, 2010]- The Lofte Community Theatre near Manley announces that for the fourth consecutive year, it will hold a free public concert in honor of Veterans Day.  On Sunday, November 7th at 2pm, the United States Air Force’s Heartland of America Band group, The Noteables will take the stage.

With their extensive repertoire of specially tailored standards, energetic favorites and Big Band classics, highlighted by instrumental and vocal soloists, The Noteables is sure to please audiences of any age. The seventeen-member group has appeared in concert and on national television with Bob Hope, jazz trumpeter Bobby Shew, composer/arranger Frank Mantooth, former Tonight Show band leader Doc Severinsen, pop singer Lee Greenwood and trombonist Wycliffe Gordon. 

The Noteables honorably represent more than 325,000 Air Force professionals around the world who diligently watch over the skies protecting and defending all those who cherish freedom. We hope you afford us the opportunity to share the messages of excellence, sacrifice, courage and commitment of our brave men and women...the deployed Airmen of the United States Air Force.
